Gerard Depardieu received a year and a half conditionally (video)

The popular French actor Gerard Depardieu was found guilty of the commission of sexual violence on the set and was sentenced by the court to 18 months of imprisonment conditionally.

The verdict announced the Parisian court on Tuesday May 13, Writes The Insider. The 76-year-old department was found guilty that he actively molested a 54-year-old woman-decorator and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of the film “Green Stavni”.

The trial lasted two months. The prosecutor’s office demanded for the department of 18 months of conditional imprisonment and a fine of 20 thousand euros, referring to its “complete denial and inability to self -reflection”. The defense insisted on fully justification, claiming that the actor became a “scapegoat” in the conditions of the “Puritan wave”.

The case was widely considered as a key test after #Metoo on how a society in France and in particular the film industry react to accusations of sexual harassment with the participation of famous people.

Gerard Depardieu rejected all the accusations against himself, claiming that he was “not like that.” However, he admitted that he used vulgar and sexual expressions on the set, and during a quarrel he grabbed the artist-operator by the hips. But he denied that in his actions there was a sexual subtext.

According to the French media, the court ordered the actor:

• get psychological help,
• compensate moral damage to the victims,
• Register in the register of sexual criminals.

Not everyone condemned the actor’s actions and behavior. Some cinema figures expressed their support to Depardieu, actors Vincent Perez and Fanny Ardan were among those who took seats on his side in the courtroom.

Depardieu himself was not present at the announcement of the sentence, as he was on the set of the film on the Azores under the leadership of his longtime friend Fanny Ardan, who previously performed in court in his defense.

Recall that more than twenty women publicly or of official complaints accused the actor of inappropriate behavior. However, only the case of sexual violence came to the trial. Some cases are terminated due to a lack of evidence or due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Although it is likely that soon Gerard Depardieu will have to face other trials.
