In Crete on a 49-year-old British tourist, glass fell from the balcony. The man had already undergone two operations due to a serious injury and was left without a spleen.
The incident probably occurred due to a strong wind in Iraklion. When a tourist was walking with his wife, glass from an apartment building collapsed down.
The tourist received serious injuries, he was taken by an ambulance EKAB to the hospital of Venizelio (βενιζέλειο νοσοκομείο ηρακλείου), Writes CNN GREECE. The man was hospitalized in critical condition, with multiple fractures and serious injuries of the head and body.
Doctors removed his spleen, and also conducted a neurosurgical operation due to the severity of traumatic brain injuries. Now the man is in the intensive care unit in critical condition.
The incident occurred near the house in the area of the port of Khersonissos. According to preliminary estimates, the glass structure was likely to come off due to strong winds. The apartment from which the glass fell belongs to the owner permanently living abroad, and at the time of the incident it was closed.
The police are investigating the causes of the tragedy.
