RSF: Germany "Flies out" from the top 10 countries with the most free press

Germany has dropped out of the ten best countries in the world press of freedom of the press – the human rights organization “Reporters without Borders” (RSF) reported this.

According to RSF, the Federal Republic of Germany worsened only slightly: from 10th to 11th place. One of the reasons for such an assessment is the “increasingly hostile working environment” for media representatives, especially because of attacks from right-winging circles.

Norway remains the leader and example in the global rating, the Estonia and the Netherlands follow it. The last places, from 178 to 180, are occupied by China, North Korea and Eritrea (Russia took 171st place). RSF publishes a detailed list right on the eve of World Freedom Day on May 3, the rating is compiled in five categories: politics, law, economics, socioculture and security.

“The global situation with the freedom of the press in 2025 reached a historical minimum”, – This is the final conclusion of the organization.

Although in a global comparison, Germany looks good, problems of a certain nature are visible:

“In 2024, those journalists who were engaged in right -winging circles and parties such as ADG were again in the risk zone: they report on hostile marking, threats, insults and fear of physical violence”

Also, according to RSF, many media representatives experienced difficulties in covering the conflict in the Middle East. In addition, the economic situation for media companies has noticeably worsened in Germany.

According to the RSF manager Ania Osterhouse, at present more than half of the world population lives in countries where the situation with freedom of the press is evaluated as very serious. In 160 countries, media practically cannot exist stable from an economic point of view.

“For autocrats, independent journalism is like a belibo in the eye”, She explains.

PS The media experienced difficulties in covering the conflict in the Middle East, but it is not Israel for RSF, which, according to the same RSF, killed 155 journalists, and for some reason the German ADG, which the ruling coalition Trying to ban.
