In 2030 there will be 150 thousand reservists in Greece

The Ministry of Defense of Greece plans to provide 150,000 reservists until 2030 and published a plan for reforming the country's reserve system.

The ministry emphasizes that the new model is designed to correct existing shortcomings. In 2024, 28,455 reservists were called up, but only about 14,200 came to the training camp. The department notes that these efforts are vital for ensuring readiness and effective national defense. Training will be carried out according to the model of Israeli and Finnish experience. Two specialized training centers will open – in Attica and near Thessaloniki. Negotiations are ongoing with groups of employers on joint financing of the costs of compensation to employees during training.
