Zurab Tsereteli died. The sculptor and the artist was 91 years old


Sculptor, monumental artist and president of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli passed away in the 92nd year. This was announced by his assistant Sergey Shagulashvili In an interview with the agency Interfax.

“Yes, it happened today at half past three in the morning”– confirmed the interlocutor of the agency.

He clarified that the cause of the death of the sculptor became heart failure. Shagulashvili added that the decision to farewell and the funeral will be made later.

Zurab Tsereteli – Soviet, Georgian and Russian sculptor, was born in Tbilisi in 1934. In 1970-1980, he served as the chief artist of the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1980-the main artist of the Olympic Games in Moscow, and in 1995-the artistic director of the construction of the memorial complex on Poklonnaya grief and the main artist for the reconstruction of the decoration Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

Tsereteli is the author of more than five thousand works in the field of painting, graphics, sculpture and monumental-decorative art. His most famous works include:
