As for Sunday Easter (04/20/2025)the general principle of Sunday holiday is valid, that is, the work of employees is prohibited. Those of hired workers who will work at enterprises legally functioning on Sunday and on other holidays, have the right to the following:
- If they receive a daily salary, then they are supposed to be a regular daily salary and an allowance of 75%, which will be calculated on the basis of their legal hourly rate for the hours that they will work;
- If they receive a monthly salary, they are supposed to be a 75%allowance, which is calculated on the basis of 1/25 of their legal salary for the hours that they will work out;
- Additional weekend (repo): If workers work on Sunday for more than five hours, they have the right to an additional weekend on another working day of the week.
Monday of Easter (21/04/2025) It is a mandatory holiday for all enterprises by law. At enterprises, who do not work on this dayfor those who are accrued for the forced wages, the usual forced wages are paid without any surcharges, while those who are paid the salary are paid monthly wages. Workers who will work have the right:
- If they receive a daily salary, then they are supposed to be a regular daily salary and an allowance of 75%, which will be calculated on the basis of their legal hourly rate for the hours that they will work;
- In case workers receive a monthly salary:
- If we are talking about enterprises that legally work on Sunday and on other holidays, they are supposed to be a 75%allowance, which is calculated based on 1/25 of their legal salary for the hours that they will work out;
- If we are talking about enterprises that are closed on Sunday and holidays, and will temporarily work on Monday of Easter, they are supposed to 1/25 of their usual salary and an additional allowance of 75% for a legal day salary for those hours that they will work out.
The provisions of the legislation on Sunday holidays, holidays during Easter, the time of weekly rest of employees and exceptions from them, depending on the activities and nature of the work, are contained in Articles 193-209 of the Code of Individual Labor Law (πδ 80/2022, α΄ 222).
In the event that more favorable conditions are in force (for example, under a collective labor contract, internal regulations, established practice or custom) in relation to allowances for payment for work on the day of a compulsory holiday or Sunday, they have priority.
On the day of the obligatory holiday Work is prohibited Employees and the functioning of enterprises, except for those who legally work on Sunday and holidays. Enterprises that do not fall under the exception of the law cannot function legally. Therefore, they cannot hire workers without receiving special permission From the relevant labor inspection and, in case of emergency (the threat of destruction of products or damage to equipment or materials), after notification of the police.
The illegal work of personnel on Sunday or during a compulsory holiday belongs to the category of very serious violations, with high fines and further criminal liability of the employer.
