Why do we not see in the dark, like cats (video)

Cats, as you know, see well in the dark. Why don't people have this ability?

After turning off the light or exit from the illuminated room to the dark street, we have to get used to the dark for a long time, but even after that we cannot see all the details. Why is this obtained in other animals?

Features of vision in predators

Each of them has its own cycle of sleep. Some predatory animals prefer to hunt during the day, others at night. It is very hot in warm countries during the day, and running for prey at this temperature is difficult. But at night ideal conditions for hunting are created: in addition to comfortable temperature, the fact that victims of predators at this time usually sleep is played a significant role. Due to this regime, predatory animals during evolution formed all the skills necessary for hunting at night.

Human vision

Human eye, Explains BB.LV, passes the light through a hole called the pupil. The lens inside the eye focuses the image on the retina. The retina can be represented as a wall on which the projector places the picture. It contains two types of structures called sticks and cones that capture light and send information about the image to the brain.

The sticks are well captured by a very dull light and react to movement. However, they do not allow you to see different colors. The image that our eyes sends to the brain is color only thanks to cones, which can function only with sufficient lighting intensity. At the same time, sticks in the human eye are four times more than cones.

This ratio means that we see well enough during the day. Despite the fact that there are not as many cones in our eyes as sticks, their number is higher than that of some animals. During the day, we can see many different colors, and we still carefully look at objects in the dark. But other animals that have more sticks and fewer cones than ours can see even better in the dark, even if they perceive the colors not so well.
