The real Dubai chocolate is not imported due to the short expiration date, it can only be bought in the United Arab Emirates. Visiting the country, tourists must take the opportunity to “grab” with them several tiles of popular yummy.
March 19 Der Spiegel reportedthat in Dubai chocolate experts discovered hazardous substances. The German consumer organization Stiftung Warentest sent six different chocolate tiles purchased in Europe to the laboratory. The treats, experts indicate, were not of high quality, and in two of the six tiles they found harmful substances. Stiftung Warentest* reported:
“Chocolate costs from 7 to 25 euros per 100 grams took part in the testing. Four out of six should not have been sold at all, since the lists of ingredients and nutritional value information were wrong or incomplete. In some cases there was also no compulsory information for allergy sufferers.”
Some samples contained 3-monochlorpropandiol and glycydyl ether. These fat pollutants are often found in refined palm oil and are considered potentially carcinogenic. The Le Damas product was also “significantly” contaminated with mold with carcinogenic substances, widespread in pistachios. The organization emphasized:
“From the use of chocolate, you should not expect serious health consequences. However, such conclusions about the presence of harmful substances are incompatible with the promise of the highest quality.”
