Research: vegetable oils and risk of premature death (video)


A new study evaluates the risk of premature death, comparing the use of vegetable and butter.

The refusal of daily use of oil in favor of some vegetable oils can reduce the risk of premature death, replacing only 10 g of oil per day with vegetable oils reduces the risk of mortality by 17%.

This is evidenced by scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health. G. Chana, who studied the data for more than 30 years and found out: Regular oil consumption increases the risk of death by 15%, while vegetable oils reduce it by 16%. “This is a significant difference, especially if you look from the position of public health. If such a replacement becomes massive, you can significantly reduce the number of premature deaths in the population.”

Experts emphasize that Oil is not an absolute evil. Zhang explains:

“We do not say that we need to completely abandon the oil, but even a slight reduction in its consumption in favor of vegetable oils can have a positive effect.”

However, if you choose between butter and beef fat (which was once promoted, as a more healthy replacement of oil from sunflower seeds), rapeseed, soy and olive oils are the best choice, scientists added.

Seed oils are obtained from plant seeds, while vegetable oils are extracted from different parts of the plant. All oils analyzed in the study belong to the category of seeds, with the exception of olive oil.

Olive, rapeseed and soy oils are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, have anti-inflammatory effects and contribute to the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Other vegetable oils, such as Sunflower, corn and peanut, contain a large amount of omega-6 fatty acids. They are also necessary for health, but their excess in the diet can aggravate inflammatory processes. Villet explains:

“The main thing is the balance. We need both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, the perfect option is their combination, for example, in soy or rape oil.”

Despite the advantages of vegetable oils, experts advise using them moderately. All fats, regardless of origin, have a high calorie content – about 120 kcal per tablespoon. Excessive use can lead to weight gain and health problems.
