Opening of Greek Speleologists in Pangeon: a new cave was discovered

On Saturday, March 15, in the Lakkoviki area, a new unexplored cave was discovered by members of the Cavalry Museum of the National Archaeological Museum.

Lakkoviki is one of the most historical settlements on the western slope of Mount Pangeon, about 12 km from ancient amphipol. Access to the cave is difficult, as this requires an SUV and a long way on foot.

The cave of the CHELOOGOGS was shown by Konstantinos Varitis, a cattle breeder from an abandoned settlement, not far from the corral that it contained.

A small narrow entrance, which an adult can barely penetrate, does not at all portend the appearance of an abyss with a depth of 30 meters. There are two spacious rooms immediately behind him. Inside the cave, the corridors and narrow passages intersect and lead to smaller and large rooms, decorated with stalactites, stalagmites and gelictitis. To the deepest point, the cave abyss is a maze with amazing beauty and a variety of cave jewelry.

The cave is a house for a colony of bats and several other unknown species living there. Their collection, identification and classification, as well as mapping and description of the cave, require repeated visits.
