The atmosphere in Attica on Saturday March 15 is suffocating: African dust covered the embankment of Poseidon and beaches, excluding the possibility of going to the seashore.
Athens – as in fog, visibility is limited. Waking up this morning and looking out the window, the inhabitants of Athens and especially the southern suburbs sometimes could not see the house on the opposite side of the street.
The “dust” phenomenon is accompanied by unusually high temperatures for the season: in the Attica in places 26 ° C, in the north of Crete – 30 ° C.
The transfer of African dust was facilitated by the southeastern winds, the strength of which was from 4 to 6 points, in the Ionian Sea in places 8 points on the box of Bofors. A similar phenomenon was observed at Evia.
It is expected that dust will remain within two weekends, which will affect the quality of the air and create conditions similar to deserted ones. Citizens, especially vulnerable groups, are recommended to limit their movements and avoid intense physical exertion in the open air in order to protect themselves from possible breathing problems.
