The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs promises to deal with stray dogs after the tragedy (video)

After the death of a two -year -old baby, who was torn by street dogs, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey Ali Erlikayya promised to fully apply the law on the removal of millions of stray dogs from the streets.

The law, called by groups of animal defenders, the Law on Mass Murders, was adopted by parliament in the summer of last year, but the municipal authorities fulfill it only partially. Many believe that they are not fulfilled at all.

The law obliges the municipalities to collect homeless dogs and place them in shelters, for vaccination and sterilization, and then offer those who want to take them home. Euthanasia is subject to incurably sick or hazardous animals. In his video message, Ali Erlikai said:

“Either they will do this work, or I use all the powers that the law gives me to fully.”

The requirement for strict execution of the law in Turkey intensified after a terrible incident: a two -year -old Syrian girl wound El Celechi bit 10 wandering dogs. Everything happened in Kong, local media reported.

A flock of stray dogs attacked a small wound, which, together with the family, was attacked by relatives. Relatives took a seriously wounded child to the city hospital, where the baby died.

The report published by the Association “Safe Streets and Protection of the Right to Life”, advocated for the removal of all stray dogs from the streets, states that since 2022, 65 people have died as a result of attacks of street dogs, not counting a small wound.

Animal defenders are afraid that the law will lead to the fact that dogs will kill or they will find themselves in abandoned and crowded shelters. When the law was adopted, the main opposition party promised that its municipalities would not be raids on homeless animals.
