Prime Minister of Canada announced the start of the trade war with the United States

The USA still introduced 25 percent duties on the import of goods from Canada: Their, as well as duties against Mexico, planned to be introduced back in early February, but after the negotiations of Trump with the heads of these countries, the introduction of duties was postponed for a month.

Many believed that the story of the duties would end there, but no: the month passed, and the duties entered into force.

The Prime Minister of Canada Trudeau gave a special press conference on this occasion, at which he pathetically stated that “The USA, our closest ally and friend, declared a trade war against Canada.” Trudeau said that Canada introduces symmetrical import duties on American goods that will act until the Americans cancel the restrictions introduced.

Trudeau has already set customs duties on the first batch of goods from the United States in the amount of $ 30 billion and announced plans to expand this list to $ 125 billion over the next three weeks.

The premieres of the provinces also expressed their readiness to introduce their own response, including the removal of American alcoholic beverages from the sale, increase the maintenance fees for the use of roads by commercial vehicles from the USA and restricting the participation of American companies in public procurement.

The Prime Minister of Ontario Dag Ford expressed his readiness to use even more stringent measures, including a possible reduction in electricity exports in the United States, which supplies about 1.5 million American consumers. The Minister of Energy of Ontario Stephen Lechch also proposed to introduce an export fee for each megavatt of electricity exported to the United States. (I wonder what will happen if Trump orders to stop the export of electricity to Canada?).

Earlier, the White House announced the beginning of the process of introducing tariffs against Canada and Mexico. The official statement states that the insufficient efforts of these countries in the arrest of drug dealers, the confiscation of narcotic drugs and coordination with the American law enforcement agencies create an unusual and extreme threat to the national security of the United States.
