Donald Trump believes that the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine will “have to meet” to end the war.
The US President said this on February 21 to reporters in the White House:
“I believe that President Putin and President Zelensky should meet. You know why? Because we want to stop the murder of millions of people.”
Earlier in an interview with Fox News Radio Trump said he did not see the need for the participation of Zelensky in negotiations on the termination of the Russian war against Ukraine. At the same time, the American leader emphasized that he continues the dialogue with both sides.
At the same meeting with journalists Trump denied the reports that appeared in the media that he would visit Moscow on May 9. When asked whether he is going to participate in the celebration of Victory Day in Russia in the Second World War, the head of the White House replied: “No, I'm not going to.”
The French magazine Le Point announced earlier with reference to unnamed sources that Trump could be present at the parade in Moscow and will meet in the Russian capital with Vladimir Putin. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Trump’s visit to Moscow was not planned yet. When asked by journalists, whether the parties agreed on the visit, Peskov answered negatively.
