Permanent Scientific Commission for Monitoring the Greek Volcanic Arders OAS held a meeting on Saturday to discuss current seismic and volcanic activity in the area Santorini.
After the discussions and submission of the commission data, they came to the following conclusions:
- Seismic activity in the sea zone between Santorini And Amorg demonstrates a decrease. WITH February 1 to the present, registered 1368 Earthquakes of magnitude above 3.0at the same time the maximum magnitude reached 5.3.
- Seismic activity is due to underwater faults with the direction Sv-yuz and is associated with the geodynamic character of the region. This activity is the result of a combination of tectonic processes and deep magmatism.
- The seismic activity inside the Caldra remains at the same level, while the deformation of the Earth in a wider area Santorini shows a decrease that is constantly monitored. At the moment, public buildings are demonstrating good resistance to seismic loads.
The commissions recommend the following preventive measures for citizens:
- Avoid large clusters of people in buildings.
- Do not approach abandoned buildings.
- Avoid access and stay in the ports Ammude, Armeni, Coffra And Old Porto Firos.
- Eliminate the dangerous elements of unstructural vulnerability in buildings (heavy objects, suspended ceilings, etc.) and free the pools from the water.
- Choose safe routes when moving, especially in areas with steep slopes and the possibility of landslides.
- Immediately leave the coastal zones in the case of a strong earthquake.
