In a few weeks, in Hanye on the beach of Pachia Ammos, three dolphins were found dead.
Member of the environmental initiative of Hanya and the head of the department of environmental education in Vamos Fotis Pontamakis says:
“There are fears, because in less than a month, on the same beach, three dolphins were killed. This is not what is happening every day. This beach is one of the most beautiful. ”
Mr. Pontamakis explains the fears of ecologists:
“Dolphins are affected by submarines, military exercises, explosions on the seabed and the like, the number of which has recently increased. However, we must note that due to complaints, the Greek Navy took some measures, but the problem is that, unfortunately, other ships come to exercises. In the Aegean Sea, the teachings of the Turkish Navy are held, so this is a situation when we need to take measures. ”
The head of the department of environmental education offers possible steps, quotes Newsbeast.gr:
“For example, the Greek gutter area, which is important for dolphins and whales, is important to declare protected territory. This means that the boats should take place at a lower speed and observation should be established. There are other problems in the Pachia-Ammos, such as the implementation of the municipality plan for creating a wastewater treatment plant a few meters from the beach, where turtles lay eggs. ”
