The head of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar announced the country's withdrawal from the UN Council for Human Rights.
About this, Writes BB.LV, he said on his page on the social network X, emphasizing that Israel welcomes the decision of US President Donald Trump on the country's exit from the UN HRC:
“Israel joins the United States and will not participate in the UN HRC.”
The Foreign Minister accused the UN Council for Human Rights of “traditionally protects human rights violators, allowing them to hide from criticism, and constantly demonizes the only democracy in the Middle East – Israel.”
Gideon Saar recalled that the UN HRC adopted more than 100 condemning resolutions against the Jewish state. These are more than 20% of resolutions adopted over the entire existence of the Council “and more than against Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela combined.” He emphasized that Israel would no longer endure the discrimination of the UN HRC.
On January 30, Israel stopped all contacts with the UN Middle East Agency to help Palestinian refugees on the basis of a decision on the ban on the agency, which was made by the Israeli parliament on October 28, 2024 by a majority vote. The reason for the adoption of the relevant law was the accusation of the organization of cooperation with the radical Palestinian movement of Hamas.
