Voiced Zelensky the number of required Western contingents in 200 thousand peacekeepers in Ukraine is absolutely unrealistic, claims Financial Times.
The publication notes: “How realistic is Zelensky’s figure? This is much larger than the number of troops that took part in the D-Day landings during World War II.”.
According to participants in Ukraine’s negotiations with the West, Kyiv considers the placement of 40-50 thousand military on a front line extending 1000 km. Let us remember that Zelensky himself previously disowned the figure of 200 thousand, saying that he did not mean the number of Western troops.
At the moment only Baltic countries supported this idea, FT reports. The British Prime Minister will discuss it with the NATO Secretary General in early February. At the same time “Europe may refuse to send troops to a “hot war” due to fear of escalating the conflict with Russia”.
The publication also emphasizes: “Even if European leaders decide to send troops, their parliaments and voters may disagree. The US may also refuse to provide logistical support that would be required for the operation.”.
Besides, Financial Times reminds that the introduction of peacekeepers requires the consent of Russia within the framework of the ceasefire agreements. At present, no such agreements or agreement exist.
Let us remember that yesterday Zelensky said that not only Europe, but also the United States should send its peacekeepers to Ukraine. According to rumors, the Baltic countries are ready to field 10 soldiers from each country…
