Drivers who will be found uninsured cars, overdue technical inspections (ΚΤΕΟ) and unpaid tolls will face serious fines.
Although inspections will be carried out every six months, the relevant authorities have already begun the first trials to test the new system of inspections and controls, with the aim of identifying the real extent of the problem in the near future. It is expected that more 500,000 cars are without insurance, while the number of those who have failed technical inspection remains unknown.
Violators who are identified will be required to pay significant fines. For uninsured vehicles, the fines are:
- 250 euros for motorcycles;
- 500 euros for passenger cars;
- 1000 euros for buses or general purpose trucks.
In case of repeated violation, fines are doubled, and license plates and driver's licenses are confiscated and returned only after the violations are eliminated. In this context, the new high-tech cameras that are being installed on the roads of Attica will play a key role.

Particularly severe fines are provided for cases where vehicles were declared as motionless. If such vehicles are found in motion or parked outside the declared location, the fine starts from 10,000 euros and can reach 30,000 euros, In case of repeated violation, the driver's license will also be confiscated for three years.
Regarding tolls, those who make payments on these days are considered overduesince the deadline expired on December 31, 2024. Surcharges apply for late payments: 25% in January, 50% in February and doubling the amount since March.
