“What would have happened if Trump had offered to buy Greece after Greenland?” This hypothetical question becomes relevant again as the country is already being questioned as to whether it belongs to the Greeks as claimed Kapodistrias, Ioannis Metaxas And Andreas Papandreou.
The country's political leadership sells Greek citizenship and provides the so-called “golden visa” (residence permit) to the Chinese, Turks, Americans and others for several thousand dollars. At sale prices.
First reaction The rhetorical question is that many of the residents of the northern and southern suburbs of the country would perceive the proposal to sell Greece to America as beneficial, since it would relieve them of chronic problems such as the threat from Turkey, high energy costs and high unemployment – even from the demographic problem. Thousands of Americans would emigrate to our islands and hinterlands, while the same number of Greeks would automatically receive American citizenship instead of a three-month visa ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization – Electronic travel authorization system).
Next questionWhat will emerge is whether the American government will be able to manage the issues better than the Greek government, which is also questionable since these issues are geopolitical. Moreover, outside the American guarantee, they continue to exist, starting with the problem of illegal migration, in which America has not demonstrated good results. Moreover, thanks to the brilliant political statements of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Vessels And Alexandroupolis now under threat from Russian nuclear missiles.
Do we want our independence?
The third and most important question – what will the Greek people say in the event of the loss of national independence, after 204 years of bloody battles for liberation from the Turkish yoke, for the sake of a more comfortable life for the current generation of Greekswhich will be the last in its 4000-year history.
It is not at all obvious that the “broad masses” share the innermost thoughts of the Athenian elite, who are ready to sell the country to foreigners for the sake of their own well-being. It has already become obvious that complete dependence on Brussels did not provide either security or prosperity. 44 years in a “united” Europe and another half in the eurozone did not guarantee a better future for the Greeks.
Economic growth has slowed, while in Turkey it has almost tripled. The Greek province was empty, and the people of Greece learned that by 2060 people over 60 years of age will become the majority. Of course, then no one in Europe will take on Greece's pension obligations, which are equal to the external debt. This means that the country will be inhabited by other peoples…
In all these “failures” of the political elite of Athens It's not the hypothetical foreigners who are to blame, but our own choice to put unsuitable people in powerwho did not care about the development of agriculture, industry, local raw materials and education, but accepted the choice imposed on us when Greece was literally shoved into Procrustean bed of tourismwhich, from a certain point, became unprofitable.
Government decisions, which did not take into account issues of territorial planning, transport infrastructure and housing problems, gathered the country's population in two large cities – Athens and Thessaloniki, without solving problems with waste, water supply and green spaces.
Greece is not for sale, but…
Apart from the problems with the possible sale of the country to a potential “buyer”, which, of course, no one will want to take on, the problem of external threats to Greece remains unresolved, with historical attempts by the Athenian elite to appease and concessions from the east (Ankara), north (Skopje) and west (Albania), laying claim to Ipiros, the Aegean Sea, Thrace and Macedonia.
After all of the above, Greece is not for sale to anyone, like Greenland is for Trump. Let's turn over and continue our captivating national dream.
