Today, January 15, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and ΟΑΣΑ are launching a new contactless payment system “tap2ride”, using a bank card to board all types of public transport in Athens.
You can pay for travel on all types of transport ΟΑΣΑ – metro, buses, trams and trolleybuses – with a bank card and digital wallet through activated devices: smartphones, smart watches.
Thus, passengers, in addition to the ATH.ENA ticket or ATH.ENA card, will be able to use your debit, credit or prepaid card, or your smart mobile phone to board public transport.
Passengers who will be using vehicles operated by ΟΑΣΑ will have the option to alternatively pay for their ticket in a contactless manner by swiping their bank card through validating machines with the appropriate indication of contactless transactions, the cost of the trip will be debited from the passenger's account.
Let us remind you that since April 2024, the use of a contactless payment system has been piloted on express line buses at Athens International Airport (X93, X95, X96, X97). Since the launch of the pilot application, more than 90,000 users have used the service, and the average transaction size is 9% of all transactions carried out on Express routes.
Thanks to the new service, writes CNN Greece Athens joins a list of European cities – Madrid, Milan and London – that allow passengers to travel easily, safely and comfortably, helping to increase the use of public transport.
