Elevator falls in "Red Cross": Prosecutor's office decision to detain a mechanic


Yesterday in the hospital “Red Cross”(“Ερυθρό Σταυρό”) there was an incident involving an elevator falling, which resulted in four were injured. As it became known, the prosecutor demanded that the last specialist who serviced the elevator be detained.

According to information, the Greek police (ΕΛ.ΑΣ.) is looking for him for arrest. It is noted that an internal investigation (ΕΔΕ) has been ordered into this incident, and the hospital in its statement reported the following:

“At noon an incident occurred in elevator No. 6, we report the following:

  • There were four people in the elevator: one discharged patient and his attendant, as well as two private ambulance staff.
  • The patients were assessed by medical personnel who determined they had minor injuries and were being monitored.
  • The specified elevator complied with all safety regulations. The last two services were performed on December 2 and 19, 2024, and the elevator maintenance contract is valid.
  • An official investigation from the 1st ΥΠΕ was appointed to investigate the circumstances of the incident.”
