Members of the amateur scientific group “Geomythtics” discovered third lake under the Kifisos river. It should be noted that earlier these same researchers found two underground lakesafter which their concerns about the stability of the system increased significantly.
Periphery of Attica and now already government they fear that in the future Athens may face the fate of Valencia…
Valencia is a large city with a population of three million people, and no one could have imagined that it would be subject to such a serious disaster as the one that occurred on October 29, when the city was flooded as if it were a simple … village next to a stream.
When this happened, everyone began to wonder what would happen to Kifisos in Athens if all this infrastructure suddenly collapsed, taking with it thousands of drivers and nearby residents.
The problem is political, not environmental. Government must find a solution and do it immediately. There will be no warning before the disaster occurs.
The third – and largest – lake, as the team members explain in a video published on YouTube, is located at the confluence of the Kifisos riverbed with the Eschatia stream, at the level of KTEO Peristeri.
As can be seen in the video, the lake was formed as a result of the destruction of a concrete channel, which, according to them, was 5 meters wide. This lake also seems to be home to fish.
The group has so far entered the underground channel of Kifisos from both sides, but both times failed to complete the entire underground route. This was because they discovered two underground lakes at the confluence of Kifisos and Podonifti and one in the KTEL area.
Let us recall that the first of the lakes was discovered by members of the same group in January 2021, when it was found in the area of the pedestrian bridge of Perissou and Vikela Street in Patisia, immediately after the underground confluence of Kifisos with Podonifti.
Six months later, in July 2023, the same group discovered a second lake near Kifisos at the Levkoforou level of Athens after they entered from the Renti area and walked 3.5 kilometers under the National Road.
“The stability issue is very serious and we believe the water needs to be pumped out and the damage assessed by engineers. The underground channel in the area of the third lake is in the worst condition we have ever seen.”– noted members of the group, talking to the Athens newspaper.
