From confidencewhich were refuted in the past year, to uncertainty current year. How the world is changing after Donald Trump's victory in the US elections.
According to the English philosopher Sir Francis Bacon, “if a person chooses certainty, he will end up in doubt, while if he chooses to choose doubt, he will arrive at certainty.”.
The past year was full of confidence, which was disproved miserably. For example, in the political establishment of Europe, no one believed in Trump’s victory in the US elections, especially after the events that occurred in the Capitol during the previous presidential election, which brought Biden to power.
Most media and sociological companies initially predicted Harris landslide victorybefore they started talking about the Democratic candidate's “margins of victory.” The elections took place, the result is known to everyone, and many experts found themselves in disadvantage.
USA, France, Germany
Aside from Donald Trump's devoted supporters, the rest of the world was convinced that America had “maturity”so as not to survive another adventure similar to the previous one. Likewise, moving to the other side of the Atlantic, although in Europe both the media and polling companies were more wary, most believed there was a problem with extreme rightbut the situation is under control.
This was another belief that was disproved. Just look at the results of the European Parliament elections and especially what happened and is still going on in France, while Germany is gradually becoming next, where opinion polls are already putting the far right AfD in the position official opposition, or even predict victory for them in the elections.
On the Ukrainian front, the Russian side's confidence that it would quickly capture Kyiv within a few days has been refuted almost three years since the start of operations. Similarly, the confidence of the Ukrainian side that, with the help of its Western allies, it will quickly deal with Russia and force it to disorderly retreat. Trump's choice also undermines confidence in unconditional US support on the Ukrainian front.
Confidence and propaganda
In the Greek microcosm, it came as a surprise to many that after the Golden Dawn (in the past) and the Ελληνικής Λύσης (Greek Solution), two more parties will appear that move to the right of the right and will be able to elect their own MEPs. And if the case of “Нίκης” (Niki) had some chances as a result of success in the national elections, then the “Φωνή Λογικής” (Voice of Reason) of Aphrodite Latinopoulou came out of nowhere and turned the situation around by electing her to the European Parliament.
The government's confidence, as presented on a number of issues, is pure propaganda. For example, take the statements of the Minister of Health, who yesterday confidently stated that the new year will be the year “complete renewal of ΕΣΥ services” (National Health System of Greece). Mr Georgiadis promised better infrastructure, more staff and better equipment. Especially with regard to personnel, official data show that the minister's confidence are refuted.
This is due to the fact that the ratio of hiring and firing remains clearly in favor of the latter. In 2023, according to reporting data, A total of 14,621 permanent employees leftof which 22% are from the Ministry of Health, while employment in the same ministry amounted to only 10% of total public sector admissions. Will the Minister of Health be able to close the front that he opened with part of the ND party audience with private doctors regarding duty in hospitals and a number of other issues, such as compensation? Considering the negative attitude of doctors towards the policy carried out by Georgiadis – doubtful.
Election confidence
But speaking of government, the question may be not in the confidence of each minister, but in the confidence of the prime minister himself. On the one hand, he claims that he does not intend to change the electoral law, and on the other hand, he carefully examines the intentions of his political opponents in this regard. And all this because selective confidence national elections 2023 regarding ND collapsed as cardboard tower, just a year later in the elections to the European Parliament.
For a long time, SYRIZA was on horseback. The party president, Stefanos Kasselakis, who won the 2023 elections, was confident in “big revolution” in the elections to the European Parliament and in the SYRIZA championship. However, this did not happen; on the contrary, the elections to the European Parliament became the beginning of the end for Mr. Kasselakis and his relationship with the party. And in this case, intra-party confidence collapsed miserably.
“Good Manager”
The confidence of representatives of the left forces that they can change the world is moving in the same spirit. The problem is that narrative of the left, and especially the ways in which it chooses to convey it to society, is imbued with a spirit rich in nostalgia, but with very little understanding of the needs of today and world changes. The left seems to forget that it is speaking to a public most of whom are tired and exhausted from years of deprivation, cuts and lack of vision for anything better, which combined with the left's first time government experience and the compromises it has chosen to follow as the other “good manager”leads to a dead end for itself.
Landing
Confidence is also being expressed from PASOK (Socialist Movement Party) that the time has come to regain political primacy in the country after almost 13 years of depreciation and disorderly retreat. The fact that PASOK is taking a position official oppositionbecause SYRIZA politically committed suicide, seems to be ignored in Harilau Trikoupi. In the same vein, the mayor of Athens had confidence that they could become the next big thing for social democracy in the country, until the results of the internal party elections in PASOK also grounded him in reality.
The first year we are experiencing has already been characterized by analysts as the year “uncertainties” due to the instability prevailing in global geopolitics, economics, etc. Therefore, confidence is no longer in fashion. After all, as another British philosopher said Bertrand Russell, “in all matters, it is useful from time to time to put a question mark on things that you consider to be established long ago”.
