Greece plans to tighten parental control over the use of mobile devices by minors. For this purpose, a special Kids Wallet application will be launched in the spring of 2025.
Digital Policy Minister Dimitris Papastergiou said: tells bb.lv publication that it will be aimed at protecting children under 15 years of age from the risks of excessive and inappropriate use of the Internet. The application will be run by the government services platform.
“This is a big change,” Papastergiou said. The application will integrate advanced algorithms to monitor usage and apply strict authentication processes (the process of identifying a user or device to determine its identity and right to access certain resources or system functionality). The minister emphasized:
“The Kids Wallet app will greatly simplify parental controls and become our official national age verification tool.”
The government hopes to have the app pre-installed on smartphones sold in Greece by the end of 2025.
Kids Wallet is part of an overall strategy to protect minors from Internet addiction and excessive use of social networks. The national plan also includes a special website for parents, where they can familiarize themselves with existing control functions and receive appropriate instructions.
