“Silent fireworks” in Athens did not make the holiday any less fun, and an explosive party in Thessaloniki attracted thousands of people (video)

Celebrating the New Year 2025 in Athens traditionally brought together residents and guests of the Greek capital at the festively decorated Syntagma Square.

People gathered at Constitution Square early in the morning to catch the original musical theater performance of Foivos Delivorias, “The Roof of Time,” directed by Angelos Triantafyllos. The event was opened by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens.

With songs, dances and elements of humor, a journey through time took place through the history of Athens from 1945 to 2025. It was attended by Natassa Bofiliou, Marta Frindzila and Thanasis Alevras.

Before midnight, the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, took the stage and, together with the artists, began the countdown to 2025. At 12 o'clock a magnificent fireworks display lit up the sky. However, he was a little quieter than usual, so as not to disturb the four-legged “residents” of the capital. Hundreds of drones complemented the enchanting spectacle, creating bright patterns in the sky. And then Laternativ took over the first big party of the year in Athens.

Thessaloniki welcomed 2025 in a completely different way compared to previous years. Thousands of people filled the main streets of the city, with the White Tower at the center of this year's events, where Greek and foreign masters of the electronic scene performed.

Music, songs, non-stop dancing, unbridled fun… And shortly before the arrival of the New Year, the symbol of the city, the White Tower, “transformed”: the sky was painted with light rays.

The mayor of the city, Stelios Angeloudis, shortly before the countdown began, announced from the stage:

“We like this Thessaloniki. We want this city. An optimistic city, a city full of smiles, a vibrant city, a bustling city, a confident city, a city for everyone.”

The explosive party started at 20:00 and ended three hours after midnight, and an unforgettable experience for lovers of techno, electro and house music was provided by Miss Kittin and Roy Perez, two leading names in the international electronic music scene, as well as Mironas, ISON, Thomas Numan and Kate de Sons. Crowds of people blocked the coastal avenue to the port and Mitropoleos Street, and separate parties were organized in other streets of the city center.
