From February 1, 2025, residents of Greece will be able to save on electricity – a new two-zone preferential pricing system will come into force.
It applies to consumers who have suitable counter (dual-zone recording or new intelligent) and current night rate. A two-zone tariff consists of day and night zones, while their opening hours in winter will be different from summer, tells CNN Greece.
The goal of the initiative is to provide consumers with access to electricity when it is cheapest. The schedule for each zone and season will be as follows:
Winter hours, November to March
- Day zone: 12:00 – 15:00.
- Night zone: 2 am – 5 am.
Summer time, from April to October
- day zone: from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Night zone: 2 am – 4 am.
The legislation will provide that existing supply agreements with a two-zone tariff will remain in force subject to the new schedule. In the event that the consumer does not want to remain on the two-zone tariff, he can request termination of current contract for delivery at no cost to him in case of early withdrawal.
The Greek electricity distribution network operator ΔΕΔΔΗΕ, responsible for implementing the reduced price schedule, pledged to take all necessary actions for the new reduced price schedule to come into force from the beginning of February.
The transition to the new schedule will occur automatically, without requiring any action on the part of consumers. The same will apply to any possible future changes.
The exception to the above will be the approximately 150,000 customers who are included in the current feed-in pricing scheme due to the characteristics of their existing meter installations. These customers will be informed by letter from the energy supply company they work with.
So that the new schedule applies to them, if they so wish, they you should contact ΔΕΔΔΗΕ with your request. The change will be made free of charge. Otherwise, they will remain included in the reduced price schedule valid until January 31, 2025.
In addition, consumers who want be aware of new reduced prices for watchescan:

An announcement will follow from ΔΕΔΔΗΕ about the launch of the above information methods. Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Theodore Skilakakis said:
“The new two-zone system of reduced electricity prices, which we are introducing from the beginning of February, is an initiative that follows the successful government policy to further penetrate renewable sources into the energy mix. Households that take advantage of this and consume energy at a time when electricity is cheaper thanks to ΑΠΕ will see a significant reduction in their energy bills. We continue to plan and implement policies with consumers at the core.”
Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Alexandra Sducu noted:
“With our initiative to introduce a new two-zone electricity pricing system, we are moving closer to reforming an important feature of residential tariffs whose anachronistic design has denied them valuable flexibility and more competitive prices driven by household demand. Now, thanks to the new reduced consumption zones, we are bringing cheap ΑΠΕ prices closer to the real consumption needs of households, synchronizing supply and demand, in order to optimize the exploitation of our national energy wealth, which is nothing more than electricity.”
