A Hellenic Navy helicopter type S70B Aegean Hawk carried out the evacuation of a crew member from a Russian vessel following a request from the Unified Coordination Center for Search and Rescue Operations (ΕΚΣΕΔ) in the evening hours yesterday.
The man was reported to be from the Russian-flagged cargo ship M/V ENISEY, which was 25 nautical miles west of Kythira, and was in need of urgent medical attention.
The patient was taken to Kalamata airport, where he was met by an ambulance ΕΚΑΒ (Εθνικό Κέντρο Άμεσης Βοήθειας), the Navy General Staff said in a statement.
