Tourism: five Christmas destinations that Greeks preferred this year (video)

Since the end of November, the occupancy rate of Trikala hotels for Christmas has reached 95%, Konstantinos Papapoulios, president of the Hoteliers' Union, told CNN in Greece.

In Drama, the hoteliers' president, Mr. Aggelos Kallias, reported that occupancy reached 90% over the three days of Christmas. However, on the remaining days of the month, according to him, the picture is different: in general for December it is close to 50-55%.

The villages of Arcadia demonstrate high occupancy rates. In recent years, new destinations have been constantly emerging in the region in addition to the traditional ones, which consistently attract travelers throughout the winter. Dimitsana, Stemnitsa and other villages of Arcadia, as of mid-November, showed high advance booking rates.

During three-day and winter holidays Kalavrita is always popular among the Greeks. In particular, for the three days of Christmas, the level of bookings compared to previous days was about 90%, notes Konstantinos Dafalia, president of the Association of Hoteliers and Tourists of the region.

In addition to domestic destinations, many chose to spend Christmas abroad this year. According to Aegean, employment levels in the international network in Athens and Thessaloniki show an increase compared to last year. A week before the Christmas holidays – from 80% to 86% and even 90%, depending on the direction.

Traditional Christmas destinations such as Vienna, Paris and Genevaare always in great demand among the Greeks.
