According to Die Welt, the man lived in the city of Bernburg, located 50 km from Magdeburg. He had permission to stay in Germany for a long time. At the time of publication, searches were taking place at the suspect’s place of residence. The newspaper found the profile of the user Taleb Al Abdulmohsen on social networks, which fits the description based on the data listed above.
Der Spiegel notes that Taleb A. has been active on social media for years. In particular, he gave advice to women from Saudi Arabia on how to escape from this country. He had his own website dedicated to providing political asylum in Germany.
According to the German press, the police had no information that Taleb A. shared Islamist views. Meanwhile, as Der Spiegel found out, eight days ago, a video interview with Taleb A appeared on an American blog hostile to Islam. For 45 minutes, he stated the following:
“The German state is conducting a covert “secret operation” to hunt around the world for Saudi Arabian natives who have left Islam in order to “destroy their lives.” At the same time, Syrian jihadists are given refuge in Germany.”
In November, a man published the so-called “demands of the liberal Saudi opposition” on the social network X. The first point was:
“Germany must protect its borders from illegal migration. It turned out that the policy of open borders was Merkel's (former German Chancellor) plan to Islamize Europe.”
Rainer Haseloff called what happened in Magdeburg “a disaster for the city of Magdeburg, for the federal state and for Germany as a whole” and stated:
“According to the information now available, this is a lone criminal. So, according to the current assessment, there is no longer a danger for the city, since we were able to detain him and all investigative actions are now underway.”
According to BILD, police cordoned off the area and during investigations to find any explosives, explosives were indeed found inside the vehicle, which had gone through the “crazy” course that claimed the lives of so many people. German authorities are investigating whether this is an act of terrorism. According to preliminary data, the man was driving a rented black BMW. He drove “at least 400 meters through the Christmas market,” police said.
Saudi Arabia has expressed condolences to Germany over the tragedy at the Magdeburg Christmas market.
