Some US congressmen advocate the use of nuclear weapons, without the approval of the legislative branch of government, in the event of an attack.
The author of the material on the survey reported this in The New York Times:
“We asked whether they supported the president's unilateral pre-emptive strike authority and whether they agreed that the president should be able to respond to an incoming nuclear strike without congressional approval. “We also asked them to rate how comfortable they were with Donald Trump, the president-elect, having such powers.”
Some Democrats said they favor congressional approval of the use of nuclear weapons, but many in the party admitted that are ready to support the president’s decision without an approval procedure. Many representatives of the Republican Party expressed a similar opinion. They explained the right to launch a nuclear strike by the need for “quick response.”
Previously, notes BB.LV, citing military expert Nicholas Drummond, Express reported that Trump could allegedly secretly transfer nuclear weapons to Ukraine. According to the analyst, the American leader may take this step so that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky does not demand the country’s admission to NATO.
