Farmers took to the E65 highway near Karditsa, what are their demands?

Farmers spent rally on the E65 highway near Karditsa. As they claim “this year has been catastrophic for everyone”.

The decline in production of the vast majority of products, combined with low prices, high production costs, various destructions due to diseases and natural risks, and the lack of infrastructure projects, lead to bankruptcy and mass destruction of farmers and herders.

“Now on foot, then on tractors” and “Farmer, fight – they drink your blood”, – these are some of the slogans that could be heard.

During these protests they demand:

  • Compensation for lost income for farmers and pastoralists due to significant loss of production and income, as well as low prices.
  • Immediate measures and 100% compensation for lost income for cattle breeding for lost animals and the creation of herds at the expense of the state.
  • Conducting, under government control (without PPP), the study and implementation of a comprehensive plan for flood protection and water resources management.
  • Urgent dam repair.
  • Completion of work on the Acheloos River. Construction of dams, for example in Muzakyo, Pili and Skopje, as well as the implementation of all necessary irrigation projects with closed systems and the completion of works on Lake Smokovos (without PPP).
  • Minimum guaranteed prices that will cover production costs and generate income for the continuation of agricultural activities and the survival of families.
  • Reducing production costs. Tax breaks on diesel fuel, 7 cents per kWh on electricity with the abolition of the energy exchange, subsidies on funds and supplies, feed and the abolition of VAT.
  • Creation of an insurance and compensation system from ELGA, which will cover 100% of production and capital against all natural risks and diseases with sufficient government funding.
  • There is no confiscation of property and accounts for debts to tax authorities, ΕΦΚΑ, banks, as well as a ban on forced collection.

Earlier, farmers arrived with tractors on the road at the Delta intersection on E-65. They mobilized to implement the decision taken at a mass meeting held last week by agricultural associations following a call from the Federation of Agricultural Associations of Karditsa (EOASK).
