Andriy Sibiga, Ukraine's foreign minister, said that as of June 2024, there were 342 documented cases of sexual violence committed by Russians, with the majority of victims being men.
Sibiga announced this during a meeting of the Council on Human Rights, Gender Equality and Diversity at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
“According to a UN report, as of June of this year, 342 cases of sexual violence committed by Russians were documented in Ukraine. Among the victims were 236 men, 94 women, 10 girls and two boys. These are only official figures. Unfortunately, the real scale of these crimes will be significantly more, and it’s even difficult to imagine the full scale of the horror that Russian criminals are committing in the occupied territories.”
According to him, this is why Ukraine fights every day for justice so that all criminals are brought to justice. He noted that the Russian Federation brought destruction to Ukrainian soil that Europe had not seen since World War II:
“Sexual violence and gender-based violence, torture, abduction and indoctrination of children, genocide, bullying, restriction of access to health care and education – all this is an integral, shocking component of Russian aggression. This is the reality that the Russians brought to Ukraine, this is an element of their policy of terror.” .
