Another complaint about the Athens naval hospital: “Tissues for biopsy were taken in the wrong place.”
The number of complaints about military hospitals in Greece is growing like a snowball. After two cases of delayed biopsy results, which led to a rapid deterioration in the health of patients, more and more people are complaining about doctor errors and delays in examinations. In a new incident, a relative of a patient complains about the naval hospital in Athens where her father was admitted:
“My father started having shortness of breath on September 22. He was given several punctures. Since this cannot be done permanently, a permanent drain was installed in the lung to drain the fluid present in it. At the same time, several samples were taken, since they suspected that there was a malignant neoplasm, but it needed to be confirmed by a biopsy. They told us that we could take samples and take them to laboratories outside the hospital. They indicated 2-3, we chose one. The answer was delayed for a month; meanwhile, my father developed an infection in the hospital.”
Although the results “came back negative,” the family decided to contact a second laboratory for confirmation:
“When the second results came, which were also negative, it was almost Christmas. There was nothing else to do except that he had to leave the hospital after so many days of hospitalization, and if he was collecting fluid, we should do the puncture again.”
The man's daughter continues her tale of woe:
“We did another puncture, but we felt that something was wrong. Everyone suspected cancer, but could not detect it. We went to a large public hospital, the surgeon immediately told us that we needed to do a PET scan. It was there that the outbreaks were discovered, of which there were several.”
The daughter complains about the irresponsibility and incompetence of doctors. As it turned out, “the tissue for biopsy was taken from the wrong place”…
