The owner of the apartment held a lottery among tenants: who received housing

Apartment ownerwho works in the tourism sector, spoke on TV this morning ERT and described situationwhich arose immediately after the announcement was published on the Internet. He said that the apartment is 85 square meters is located on the top floor of a three-story building, about 20 yearsand explained that the requested rent was 400 euros is fair.

Moreover, as he said, he had to hold a lotteryto decide which family will get the apartment, as some of those interested even tried it bribe.

“This is an ordinary apartment, this is the price at which it should be rented, a reasonable price. We posted an ad in 19:00and within two minutes the calls started coming in. The last call came to 03:30 nights”he noted in an interview on ERT’s program “Connections”. “Realtors also called me, but I did not agree to hire anyone. The only one who helped us was our friend, because my wife and I don't use social networks.”added the apartment owner.

“I received a lot of calls and started making appointments with 13:30 to 16:30. When I came to 13:00I saw about 70 people down. The neighbors thought we were having a funeral because it continued until 19:30when I finally left. We looked at the apartment about 100 different families»he described elsewhere.

As for who ended up getting the apartment, he replied: “Some offered me a year's rent in advance. Some offered to pay more to move into the apartment. I didn't want to do this. I rented out the apartment for the price I originally asked, without guarantees or anything else. Since we had a hard time choosing, we chose four families who we thought were most in need and invited them to the apartment the next day. They came and we held a lottery using… straws, and in the end the apartment was won by the family who, it seems to me, needed it most.”.

“This is a family with two children, two twins. The terrible thing is that for four years the family lived separately. The father with one child in his parental home, and the mother with another child in hers, because they did not have housing. And the previous home was a studio, and the children slept on the sofa”he noted.

When asked if he had thought about asking for higher rent before seeing demand, the owner responded: “But the apartment costs exactly that much, 400 euros. Because there are others who rent studios with mold for 500 eurosshould I become the same as them? Whatever you do, fate will answer you in kind, that’s reality.”.
