Electricity subsidies are returning


Electricity subsidies are being returned to households and businesses. This decision was made by the Greek Ministry of Energy.

For November, the average price of electricity closed at 138 euros per megawatt-hour, recording an increase of more than 52% compared to October. Therefore the ministry decided subsidize electricity bills households and businesses so that they are not burdened with excessive price increases.

The possibility of two-month subsidization of tariffs for the population and tariffs of small businesses was discussed, and the possibility of subsidizing medium-sized businesses was also considered. The goal is to ensure that the price that reaches consumers does not exceed 0.14–0.15 euros/kWh.

Some energy suppliers have already said they will adopt policies to significantly curb growth. November 29 company ΔΕΗ announced that the price of the feed-in tariff in December will be 15.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, at the same time A 68% discount will be applied to final prices.

According to market estimates, if support measures had not been applied, the largest increase would have been recorded in “green” tariffs, close to 30% in the average price per kilowatt-hour. This means that the average price of feed-in tariffs next month will be more than 18 eurocents, compared to 14 cents/kWh in November.

Announcements expected on December 6 ΥΠΕΝ about subsidies for electricity payments for Decemberafter the prices of electricity suppliers for the next month are estimated. According to Energy Minister Thodoris Skilakakis, a way will be found to ensure that the increase does not apply to households and that the price does not exceed 15 cents euros.
