There is less than a month left before Christmas, and thrifty housewives are already planning purchases for the holiday table. What about the prices?
Traditional sweets
ΕΛΣΤΑΤ states that compared to last year the picture is betteralthough prices for many products, having stabilized, are already at high levels, while “pressure” continues for others.
The first question about the Christmas table is what about the prices of traditional sweets, melomakarona and kurabiye? It’s worth reassuring buyers right away: in the coming days Announcements from the Ministry of Development regarding the Christmas Basket are expected. For the third year in a row, it has become a lifesaver for many and will be sold in supermarkets, including products with high seasonal demand.
IN last year festive support launched on December 13 and included: lamb, goat, turkey, brioche, Christmas cake, chocolate. This year the products will most likely be the same, perhaps their list will expand somewhat. And the ministry promises not to let us down with the timing – the premiere of “The Christmas Basket” will take place during the same period.
So what about sweets? This year Kurabye “bite”, and prices for melomacarons are stable. Traditional Christmas sweets are sold in supermarkets, bakeries, and confectionery shops. Prices for them range from 13 to 16 euros, and for dips – from 14 to 16 euros, reported CNN Greece President of the Federation of Professional Confectioners of Greece Ioannis Glykos.
He explained that Compared to last year, prices for kurabye increased slightly due to the rise in price of butter, and the rest of the Christmas sweets remained at last year’s price level.
Meat prices
It is not yet time to accurately announce meat prices, but some trends are already emerging. The President of the Panhellenic Federation of Butchers, Savvas Kessidis, claims that prices for chicken and pork remain stable. At the same time, there is a fall in prices for lamb and an increase in prices for beef.
The decline in lamb prices, he explains, is due to a drop in consumer demand observed after sheep and goat pox. The price of veal has increased by 15% since the summer.
Of course anyway The cost of a Christmas meal depends largely on the choices consumers make, the food mix they offer, and the stores where they shop. But the fact remains: even if we are talking about products whose prices have not changed compared to last year, the positive thing is that this year they have not undergone a new rise in price. On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account the significant increase in prices that has taken place over the past three years.
