What traffic violations will be recorded by cameras, how will deprivation of a driver’s license take place?

“Contactless” and instant certain traffic violations will be recorded using a system of more than thousands of cameraswhich will be installed in Attica.

New cameraswhich are expected to start working with summer 2025violations such as:

• Exceeding the speed limit
• Running a red light
• Using a mobile phone while driving
• Illegal use of the emergency lane
• Driving a car without insurance
• Driving a vehicle without a valid CTEO coupon
• Violation of pedestrian crossing rules
• Improper use of a helmet
• Incorrect use of seat belt

According to the presentation of the plan for installing cameras on the streets of Athens, which was presented by the responsible ministers on Thursday (28/11), fines will be recorded by the traffic police and sent to the personal accounts of citizens on the website gov.grwhere digital payment and the filing of possible complaints will also be possible.

Digital revocation of driver's license

The system will collect all data (car number, make, date and time of violation, location) and the responsible employee (either from ΕΛ.ΑΣor from the municipal police) will digitally record violations.

The fine will then be sent digitally through your personal account to gov.gr. The system will also be able to update the points system and automatically carry out electronic suspension of driver's licenses.

Notification of violation via mobile phone message

From the moment the car is identified, the owner will receive a message on your mobile phoneif it is registered in the national communications registry, that it is being checked for violations. At the same time, materials – photographs and videos – will be sent to ΕΛ.ΑΣwhere the police officer will confirm the violation.

The next step is that violators will see their fine in the digital wallet on gov.gr. Videos and photographs of the violation will be available there, as well as the opportunity to either pay the fine or challenge it.

If the fine becomes overdueit will be transferred to ΑΑΔΕwhere the enforcement procedure will follow. If it is impossible to recover the violator, it will be opened criminal case, as a result, collectors accompanied by police officers may come to his home.
