Crisis in the German auto industry: why people aren’t buying new cars

A crisis has broken out in the automotive industry in Germany: at the logistics site “CAT Automobillogistik” About six thousand new cars have accumulated in Essen, for which they cannot find buyers. Among them – expensive Volkswagen and Audi modelsand also electric cars.

The cost of cars at the transshipment point is estimated to be at least 300 million euros. According to employees, the machines have been idle for more than six months, and some even for more than a year.

“I have never encountered anything like this before, although I have been working here for over ten years. Cars are only delivered, but almost no one leaves with them,” — told BILD one of the workers. He calls the cause of the crisis high car prices And infrastructure problems for electric vehicles.

“People are not willing to pay that kind of money for an electric car, and the development of charging stations and limited driving range are deterring buyers.”said an employee of the logistics site.

Experts confirm that demand for new cars in Germany continues to decline. Weak sales are having a negative impact on automakers. Companies such as Ford — forced to introduce shortened working hours and fire employees. However, a drop in demand may play into the hands of buyers: manufacturers are starting to offer large discounts to get rid of stale models.

As an automotive expert notes: Frank Schwopebefore the end of the year, automakers will try to improve their sales figures, which will lead to even deeper discounts. Despite this, he said, the crisis continues to deepen, and finding long-term solutions in the face of falling demand is becoming increasingly difficult.
