Following a pursuit, the Samos coast guard detained a 17-year-old pilot of a boat carrying 30 illegal migrants.

According to the port authorities, in the early morning of November 22, the patrol vessel L.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ. (Coast Guard), while on a scheduled patrol, discovered a speedboat (Τ/Χ) with foreign passengers moving at high speed from the Turkish coast to the north-eastern shores of Samos.

The smuggler made dangerous maneuvers, putting the lives of illegal migrants at risk. P.Λ.Σ. gave light and sound signals, to which the T/Χ operator did not react. A pursuit ensued, during which the operator of the T/Χ made dangerous maneuvers in an attempt to collide with P.Λ.Σ., endangering both the crew of the P.L.Σ. and the passengers of the T/Χ.

Ultimately, T/Χ was stopped, the crew of P.L.Σ. boarded the boat's thirty passengers (6 men, 5 women and 19 minors) and transported them safely to the port of Vathisa on Samos. They were then handed over to the Samos/TDM Police Department and transported toclosed controlled facility.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Samos Port Authority, while the foreign pilot of the fast vessel has been identified by others as a smuggler and detained for violating articles 291 (Dangerous interference with the transportation of fixed traffic vehicles) and 169 (Disobedience) of the Criminal Code, article 83 of Law 3386/ 2005 (Illegal entry into the country) and Article 25 of Law 5038/2023 (Smuggling of third-country nationals into Greece).

A fast boat used to transport illegal migrants and a mobile device were confiscated.
