During the investigation of the events on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, 540 people were suspected and 76 people were sentenced.
The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reported this on Thursday, November 21.
Among the persons to whom suspicion was announced:
- 46 officials and persons holding leadership positions;
- 299 law enforcement officers;
- 25 prosecutors;
- 33 judges.
318 indictments were sent to court against 495 people. Throughout 2024, law enforcement officers prosecuted 64 people, including:
- 8 high-ranking officials and heads of law enforcement agencies;
- 32 law enforcement officers, including six investigators;
- 21 employees of the Federal Service of the Russian Federation.
Since 2014, the courts have convicted 76 people, of which 26 were sentenced to imprisonment with actual serving of the sentence. Currently, 68 sentences have entered into legal force.
In October, indictments were sent to the court against the company commander and two policemen of the Berkut special forces unit, who fired the first shots at the protesters on February 20, 2014 in Kyiv.
“Take umbrellas, tea and friends” is a message that is already eleven years old. Then not only opposition politicians, but also ordinary people, mainly students, came to Maidan Independence. Then there were beatings, blood, shots, desperate civil resistance and Ukraine on the front pages of the world media. With the passage of time, conclusions can be drawn from the point of view of history.
