The embassies of four countries are temporarily closed in Kyiv due to the threat of a large-scale Russian strike.
They cease their work on November 20, as the American department warned of a possible powerful air attack on Ukraine on that day. This morning, the US Embassy in Kyiv said it had received specific information about the attack and issued a warning:
“The US Embassy advises US citizens to be prepared to immediately take cover in the event of an air raid warning.”
Recommendations for US citizens are also provided:
- follow updates in local media,
- determine the location of shelters before any air raid,
- hide immediately if an air raid alert is announced,
- Follow the instructions of Ukrainian officials and first responders in the event of an emergency.
“The embassy closure is due to an air raid alert, including the increased potential threat of a combined drone and missile attack, as has happened recently. We continue to monitor the situation, working with our Ukrainian partners.” In response to a clarifying question whether the closure of the embassy is connected with Russia’s statement about changing the nuclear doctrine and lowering the threshold for a nuclear strike, the interlocutor once again emphasized that the closure of the diplomatic mission “is associated with the constant threat of air attacks“.
The Greek Embassy also said that, for security reasons, the department will remain closed to the public on November 20: “Please avoid travel and stay in safe places.”
