An opinion poll released on Wednesday 13 November showed the ruling New Democracy Party ahead of PASOK by just a single figure, while SYRIZA slipped to fifth place.
The survey, conducted by Opinion Poll and commissioned by the Action24 TV channel, showed that New Democracy gained 23.7%, with PASOK in second place with 16.2%, a gap of 7.5 points.
Next come the nationalist Greek Solution party with 7.7%, the Communist Party KKE with 7.5% and SYRIZA with 5.2%. Opposition party “Course of Freedom” gained 5%right party “Voice of Reason” – 3.8%, and the religious-nationalist party Niki – 2.4%, which is below the parliamentary threshold of 3%.
The survey showed that PASOK's Nikos Androulakis is the most popular political leader: 45.6% of respondents rate him positively, followed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis (40.1%) and KKE's Dimitris Kouttsoubas (40%).
Nevertheless Mitsotakis was considered the most suitable candidate for the post of prime minister by 30.8% of respondents, followed by Androulakis with 9.5%. Respondents identified inflation, the economy, the healthcare system, as well as wages and pensions as the main problems they face.
More than three quarters of respondents (77.5%) believe that SYRIZA will further disintegrate. Among Syriza supporters, Socrates Famellos is considered the most suitable candidate for leadership with 26.2%, followed by Pavlos Polakis with 20.7%. Just over a quarter of Syriza voters (28.3%) said none of the four leadership candidates were suitable for the role.
