A gang that robbed ministries in the center of Athens has been eliminated (video)


In September, the Greek capital was rocked by a series of thefts from ministries. As it turned out, the gang members did not ignore other objects, robbing commercial stores and apartments.

Our edition told about thefts from Greek ministries in September. At night, unknown persons entered the offices of the Human Resources and Social Cohesion Program Management Service of the Ministry of Finance, located at 4 Korai Street in Athens. According to police, unknown persons stole three computer monitors and a coffee machine and fled.

That same night, unknown persons entered the fifth floor of the building on Dragatsaniu Street, where the information technology department of the Ministry of Labor is located, took nothing, then went up to the 7th floor, where the payments and expenses departments of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family are located, took 30 laptops and disappeared.

Two days earlier, on September 17, unknown persons stole 17 laptops from the office of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family. The computers were brand new and were located in the office storage room.

How tells CNN Greece, two gang members arrested. A criminal case has been opened against them for group grand thefts and attempted thefts, complicity in criminal activity.

As a result of the preliminary investigation, through the discovery and verification of evidence, as well as using special investigative methods, three gang members were identified and their criminal activities were confirmed. Each time the crime was committed in a different composition, 5 thefts were confirmed:

  1. In the morning hours of May 10, 2023, they entered a law office in Exarchia, breaking into the main entrance, from where they took 32 euros and tried to take out the safe, but due to the impossibility of transportation, they were unable to do so.
  2. On the same day and at the same time, they broke into an apartment on the fourth floor in the same building, breaking open the balcony door. They took my purse and other things.
  3. In the morning hours of 08/31/2023, a gang member, hiding his face, broke into a medical goods store in the Peristeri area, breaking the lock, from where he stole 5,000 euros.
  4. On the morning of September 17, 2024, gang members with their faces covered entered the 5th floor of the Ministry of Labor, located in the center of Athens, breaking through the balcony door of the office and taking nothing. They then broke into the offices of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, located in the same building, stealing 30 laptops with a total value of €30,000.
  5. On the same day, they entered the 5th floor of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, located in the center of Athens, from where they stole 3 computer monitors and 1 coffee maker.

During searches of the suspects' homes, clothing, gloves, shoes, 3 mobile phones and a folding knife were found and confiscated. A relative of one of the accused was found in possession of a small amount of cannabis and was arrested for drug offences.

Photos from surveillance cameras in ministries and law firms that “recorded” the gang at the crime scene were made public by CNN Greece. With their help, the Athens Security Sub-Directorate managed to detect four intruders. According to reports, the attackers made sure that their facial features were covered, but during the investigation, police were able to identify the clothes they wore during the robberies.

The police have biological material and fingerprints at their disposal. The criminals have a criminal history; they have been repeatedly arrested for complicity in theft, as well as for receiving and distributing proceeds of crime.
