Iran was preparing to eliminate Trump (video)

The US Department of Justice described how Iran tried to assassinate former US President Donald Trump.

Iran was preparing to eliminate Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election.. This was stated by the US Department of Justice, reports Reuters. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated:

“The Department of Justice has indicted an Iranian regime official tasked with leading a network of criminal associates to carry out Iran's plans to assassinate its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump.”

The US Department of Justice has revealed details of the case about how Iran organized a conspiracyaimed at killing Trump before the election. The case involves 51-year-old Iranian Farhad Shakeri, who remains at large, 49-year-old Carlisle Rivera and 36-year-old Jonathon Loudgault – both Americans were taken into custody the day before.

As the investigation established, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) instructed Shakeri to monitor critics of the Iranian regime in the United States and, if necessary, eliminate them. Shakeri himself was deported from the United States in 2008 and, in connection with this, used a network of accomplices for this – Loudgault and Rivera, tells Reuters.

An FBI investigation into an Iranian-American led to the arrest of Shakeri's American associates. Service agents spoke with the Iranian, who told them about orders he had received to kill other American and Israeli citizens in the United States. Among other things, on October 7, 2024, he was assigned provide a plan to assassinate Donald Trump in a short time frame. The Ministry of Justice statement says:

“During the interview, Shakeri maintained that he did not intend to propose a plan to assassinate Trump within the IRGC-imposed time frame.”

All defendants were charged with:

  • in contract murder (up to 10 years in prison),
  • conspiracy to commit contract murder (up to 10 years in prison),
  • conspiracy to commit money laundering (up to 20 years in prison).

More in September, US intelligence officials warned Trump about real threats to his lifewhich come from Iran. Against this backdrop, the Trump campaign, in the final weeks of the US presidential race, requested for him military aircraft, expanding restrictions on flights over his residences and installing bulletproof glass shields at his performance venues.

The former US president is known for his tough policy towards Iran: he returned sanctions against the Iranian regime and ordered the elimination of senior IRGC general Qasem Soleimani in 2020.
