In Lamia, students staged a pogrom and set fire to the school

In protest against expulsion for using mobile phones, students from one of the schools in Lamia… set their school on fire.

The incident occurred at 1st EPAL and required fire and police intervention, although educators were able to extinguish some of the fires. It is expected that strict action will be taken against the instigators of the riots.

Tensions have been building gradually since the day a new law came into force regarding cell phones in schools and the penalties facing violators for using cell phones inside schools.

The first expulsions caused tension, and at noon on Wednesday, November 6, a group of students attempted to set fire to the rear entrance of the school complex. The situation then seemed to calm down, but on Thursday the vandalism resumed with even greater intensity.

By decision of the Teachers' Association, this entrance was closed, which seems to have provoked an even worse situation. Some students began throwing desks, trash cans and bottles, and breaking glass. There were also arson incidents, which led to police and firefighters being called. High school principal Konstantinos Spalioras was expected to be at the school the next day, Friday.

Talking about an emergency at school, LamiaReport emphasizesthat this specific behavior goes far beyond the normal offenses of schoolchildren and entails immediate penalties for both the students and their parents or guardians.
