Politico: $6 billion for weapons to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration

The Joe Biden administration plans to use the entire balance of funds allocated for military assistance to Ukraine by January 20, 2025, before the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Two White House officials talk about it told Politico. At the end of the financial year, which ended on 30 September, more than $6 billion remains for military aid to Ukraine. According to the publication, the Biden administration has $4.3 billion to provide weapons from US Army warehouseswhich is then replaced, and also $2.1 billion – for the purchase of weapons under contracts with American defense companies.

The White House is now seeking to use these funds quickly to ensure Ukraine has enough weapons to counter Russian offensives even if Trump refuses to continue aid.

Politico's interlocutors explain that It “usually takes months” for US-provided weapons to be sent to Ukraine. therefore, the announced packages are unlikely to arrive in full until the end of January 2025, while Trump will be able to suspend the shipment of weapons.

Politico sources call another problem lack of sufficient weapons in US Army warehouses. Its replacement, which is paid for from the allocated $6 billion, may take a long time.

During the campaign, Trump made clear that he would stop or sharply reduce military aid to Ukraine if he won the Nov. 5 election, and he refused to say he wanted Ukraine to win the war.
