"Life has become better, life has become more fun"or again about butter

The Russian government stated that the rise in price of butter is due to the fact that Russians have become rich and began to eat a lot.

Russians' incomes have increased, authorities believe, and they have begun to show increased demand for food. This opinion was expressed in interview Vedomosti Oksana Lut, Minister of Agriculture.

According to the official, these factors have led to an “imbalance” in the butter market. According to Rosstat, by the end of October, the annual increase in prices for it reached 25.7%, while in October alone, oil became more expensive by 6.58% – this is the largest increase in price since October 2007. The minister says:

“The situation is absolutely clear. Against the backdrop of rising household incomes, demand has increased significantly this year, and although our butter production is stable, a certain temporary imbalance has formed in the market.”

At the end of October, several large factories simultaneously, partially or completely, suspended production and shipments of oil, writes The Moscow Times. These are the H&N company (Prostokvashino brand), Milkom, the Almetyevsky, Kungursky, Severnoye Moloko dairy plants, as well as the Irbitsky Dairy Plant.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of Rosprodsoyuz Dmitry Leonov explains that factories are having difficulties servicing imported equipment. In addition, a shortage of raw materials, a lack of personnel, an increase in the Central Bank rate and the rise in price of imported fats are having an impact, he said.

Due to problems with butter, Russian authorities asked for help to “friendly” countries, as described in our publication. For the first time in history, the United Arab Emirates began supplying oil to Russia, and imports from Turkey began. Indian and Iranian butter in cans may also appear on store shelves. The supplies have already been approved by Rosselkhoznadzor.
