Glyfada: 19-year-old stole a bag containing 3,500 euros from a car and threw it in the trash

On Saturday at noon in Glyfada, a 19-year-old boy stole €3,500 from a parked car. Having taken documents and 350 euros from the front compartment of the bag, the thief did not notice the envelope with 3,500 euros in the back compartment and threw the bag into the trash bin.

Police say the guy opened the door of an unlocked parked car and took whatever he could get his hands on. In particular, he took a bag with 3,500 euros, as well as the identity card and license of the owner of the car.

The bag contained €350 in the front compartment and an envelope containing the rest of the money was hidden in the back compartment. As soon as the owner of the car realized that he had been robbed, he called the police, who began to “comb” the area in search of the criminal. After collecting eyewitness statements, the police discovered the thief in the entrance of a residential building located not far from the scene of the theft.

Seeing the police, the criminal tried to escape, but was arrested after a chase. At the same time, the thief resisted, pushing the officers.

The guy was found with 350 euros, a 22 cm long screwdriver, 0.5 grams of cannabis, a mobile phone and keys. The culprit told officers he threw the bag into a trash bin in Glyfada because he didn't know there was more money inside. After a search, the police found them, and the entire amount, as well as 350 euros found on the teenager, were returned to the 45-year-old victim.

According to reports, from June 2024 only in Glyfada hundreds of cases of thefts and robberies have been recorded. Young men, including minors, mostly on motorcycles, threaten their victims with sharp objects and snatch anything valuable they have on them. Similar robberies occurred in the summer, but in October their frequency, according to media reports, increased.
