The anti-terrorism department is investigating a strong explosion at noon on October 31 in an apartment in Ampelokipi, where weapons were found. As a result, a man was killed and a woman was injured.
In the first few hours after the incident, CNN GREECE tells CNN, the investigation “slowed down” and moved from a “dead point” only after the case was taken up anti-terrorist service.
During the investigation, weapons were found, and this allowed us to draw the first conclusions. The explosion occurred during the manufacture of an improvised explosive device, and it is emphasized that the mechanism is truly powerful.
During the investigation conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, a weapon was found in the apartment on the 3rd floor, which was sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic examination, as well as a mobile phone, which is being examined. According to sources, the woman who was shot and hospitalized with serious injuries in Evangelismos is known to the authorities.
The place where the man was killed and the woman was wounded served as a refuge for terrorists. The investigation is now aimed at establishing whether there is any “link” linking the incident to the actions of a terrorist organization. At the same time, the investigation has not yet come to any conclusions about the residents of the apartment.
Nobody knew the tenants. The authorities currently know that home owner passed it on to his son, who lives in the Netherlands. The father stated that he did not know whether his son rented out the apartment and to whom. He is wanted to find out more about the residents because the manager of the apartment building told police he did not know who they were.
